How this site works
Climate Crop Library reads scientific papers on how crops respond to climate. It stores the limits the authors published, each with its DOI. Disagreeing numbers are kept side by side.
- Find papers. Stored queries go to bibliographic sources. Hits are deduplicated by DOI.
- Keep the relevant ones. Titles that are not about the crop and climate are screened out.
- Read the text we are allowed to read. Abstracts always; full text only from legal open-access links.
- Extract a quoted limit. A number is kept only if it appears in a quote copied from the paper.
- Show two kinds of result. Climatic suitability is temperature (including chill units and phenology models) and rainfall the crop needs. Climate risk is temperature harm, precipitation stress, and pests and pathogens.
Site climate for a farm is left out. The page is an archive of published limits, not a recommendation for a location.
